“Building a Better Europe for Citizens”
Under the overarching theme “Building a Better Europe for Citizens” EPSA 2021 aims to showcase and reward cases submitted by public administrations which have found new solutions in public service delivery and policy-making for the increasingly complex, difficult to address and often multi-dimensional challenges faced by the public sector in Europe.
Public administrations across Europe at all levels continue to be faced in 2021 with the exceptional nature of the challenge of COVID 19 which impacts on all aspects of economic activity and public service delivery as well as impacting strongly on public sector finances and increased needs of citizens for support.
However, even before the scale of the COVID 19 became clear, public sector bodies across Europe had been faced with significant financial, economic, social, environmental and security challenges, including cyber security and the maintenance of social security (i.e. the need to enhance social protection for vulnerable groups) and demographic pressures at a time of an increasingly rapid pace of technological change.
Many of these challenges are not susceptible to short term resolution.
This has required public sector bodies to balance the competing challenges and address both immediate needs and issues with important future consequences, to effectively prioritise their actions and to develop new solutions where previously tried solutions are no longer effective.
